CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

We seek abstracts that advance our understanding of surgical innovation and its systematic evaluation. Join leading surgeons, researchers, journal editors, methodologists, and statisticians in advancing the science of surgical innovation.

The IDEAL Conference 2026 offers an informal opportunity to discuss your research in the context of IDEAL surgical evaluation and foster discussion and potential collaboration.

We welcome submissions addressing:

Implementation of IDEAL methodology in surgical research
Novel surgical techniques evaluated through the IDEAL Framework
Methodological developments in surgical research
Quality improvement initiatives in surgical practice
Long-term outcome studies of surgical innovations
Educational approaches to teaching evidence-based surgery

The IDEAL Collaboration is pleased to launch two new awards at this year’s Annual Meeting.

The IDEAL Clinical Evaluation Award will be awarded for the best presentation during the Open Sessions, selected from submitted abstracts.

The IDEAL Sandbox Award will be awarded for the best proposal for an IDEAL Stage 2a or Stage 2b study presented during the Sandbox Session.

Each award will comprise a certificate and a £500 prize, and the winning abstract or proposal will be published on the IDEAL Collaboration website.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Maximum 250 words, Title, author names, affiliations, and keywords are not included in the word count. Please follow the guidelines about structuring abstracts:
Structure:
- Background / Brief context or rationale for the study.
- Objectives / Purpose: Clear statement of the study’s aim or hypothesis.
- Methods: Summary of study design, setting, participants, interventions, and data analysis.
- Results: Key findings with specific data
- Conclusion: Interpretation of the results, relevance, and potential implications.
- Please do not include tables, figures or references.

Abstract Submission Opens: 19 June 2026
Submission Deadline: 7 September 2026
Notification of Acceptance: 30 September, 2026
Conference: 9-10 November, 2026, Trinity College, Oxford, UK.
Registration to Conference required to present.
